About
About Me:
I grew up in Palatine, Illinois, a suburb Northwest of Chicago, and attended Miami University (in Oxford, Ohio), where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Adolescent/Young Adult English Language Arts Education. While at Miami, I played both broomball (intramurals) and Quidditch (intercollegiate), and worked for the school's writing center. During my first year at Segue, I advised the school yearbook and helped Mr. Rosenbaum run the 4th quarter theater after school program. Last year, I also advised the yearbook, but this year I'll be coaching boys soccer with Mr. Terry! When I'm not reading or at Segue, I enjoy making pottery, baking, and working on various craft projects.
In the classroom, I strive to make every student an active part of our reading and writing community. I want you to take ownership over your education and grow as both readers, writers, and citizens. This means regular reading, writing, and talking about both of these things! I'm going to do my best to prepare you for high school and help you to become independent members of the greater reading and writing community that exists beyond Segue.
About Our Class:
In ELA this year, we will explore the following questions as we read, write, and converse our way through the year:
As we grow together, we will read short stories, experience poetry, read a novella and two novels, and write as much as possible. Some of that writing will culminate in a five paragraph essay, some in creative writing, and some in a research paper, but you will read and write every day--the more you practice, the better you will get!
